August 22, 1933 – My father, George Boller, age 12, arrives in Evanston, IL with family friends – ready to explore the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair.

In August of 1933, my dad, George Boller – a 12-year old small-town Iowa kid – had a tremendous boyhood experience – traveling with family friends – Paul & Mildred Rainier – to Chicago for a whirlwind visit to the Chicago World’s Fair – A Century of Progress.

  2. My mother took me to Chicago in 1934 to visit her sister’s family. What I remember is eating on the train, seeing the fair sky ride, digging holes in the sand at a Lake Michigan beach, and the Marshall Field Department Store, where an artist did a pastel portrait. For some reason, although it was still running, we did not actually attend the fair.
