August 23, 1885 – Legendary Iowa Football Coach – Howard Jones – is born in Excello, Ohio.

Howard Jones – 1916-1923, 60 games coached at Iowa, 42-17-1 record, .708 winning percentage, 2 Big Ten Conference championships, inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951.

From 1889 to today – over 130+ years – the University of Iowa has been playing football here in Iowa City.
