July 2, 1825Catharine Smucker – my gg grandmother – is born in Alsace-Lorraine, France.

Most family records show that the Smucker (Schemouker) family hailed from a little village called Bertrambois in Meurthe-et-Moselle of Lorraine. At age 18 (1843), Catharine and her family migrated to Wayne County, Ohio. There, Catharine married Jacob B. Boller (1849), and they were the first Bollers in my family to move to Iowa – settling on farmland in Washington Township of Johnson County in 1853.
