The Mississippi & Missouri Railroad & The Rock Island Railroad In Iowa.

February 27, 1847 – The Rock Island and La Salle (RI&L) Railroad Company is incorporated in Illinois.

The Rock Island and La Salle (RI&L) Railroad Company was incorporated in 1847, with an amended charter approved in 1851, renaming the group – The Chicago and Rock Island (C&RI) Railroad Company. Construction on the Rock Island line began westward from Chicago on October 1, 1851, and the first C&RI train was operated on October 10, 1852, running between Chicago and Joliet, Illinois.
