August 7, 1938 – In the midst of the Great Depression, Iowa celebrates its Territorial Centennial (1838-1938), opening the month-long Centennial Exposition in Council Bluffs.
Opening on August 7th and running through September 5th, tens of thousands of Iowans gathered to see the many exhibits in Dodge Park. Fair organizers worked with the WPA to invest $75,000 into the project, leaving Council Bluffs with new public buildings after the Exposition closed.
