As music majors in 1972, Sandy – at Northwestern University – and Marty – at The University of Iowa – both had to present senior recitals in order to receive our degrees. As it turned out, both of us colored a bit outside the box – making our recitals different than the typical one hour of solo work.
For Sandy, she decided to “share” her recital with another music ed student – Harold Potter – which made for some sweet duets.
As for Marty, my interest was much more into arranging than performance, so I talked my tuba teacher in letting me offer one of my arrangements for jazz band. As it turned out, my Bacharach Suite was both the audience’s favorite – and mine.
Take a listen to our 1972 recitals – on this, the 50th anniversary – and give us your thoughts… ENJOY!
