The Bollers & The 2023-2024 Women’s Basketball Season.

As we have written on other occasions (see above list), Iowa’s very own Caitlin Clark has become an international star with her basketball prowess. Graduating from the University of Iowa in the spring of 2024 – after four years of elevating Hawkeye Women’s Basketball to never-before-seen success – Caitlin returned to Iowa City on February 2, 2025 for the distinct honor of having her jersey – No. 22 – permanently retired. The day couldn’t have been scripted better – even by Hollywood…

Carver-Hawkeye Arena -which has been sold out for every game all season – was packed. 15,000 fans flocking to CHA for 1) Caitlin’s 22-Forever Jersey Retirement Ceremony, and 2) the game between the un-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, who’ve been experiencing a rebuilding year under first-year Coach Jan Jensen, and the #4-ranked USC Trojans, featuring their super-star JuJu Watkins.

With Hawkeye fans rocking Carver, the Hawkeyes played their best game of the season, knocking off USC, 76-69! A true shocker that stunned the Big Ten and NCAA Women’s Basketball standings.

…and the crowd and the team went bananas!

When Caitlin played here, it was common to see national celebrities sitting in the crowd. February 2, 2025, was no different. Below, Coach Lisa Bluder hams it up with David Letterman – a rabid Indiana Fever fan. Oh yeah, and you can’t forget the lineup of former Iowa stars: Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall, Megan Gustafson, and others.

After clearing the throng of Hawkeye students who stormed onto the court after the exciting victory, the Forever 22 – Jersey Retirement Ceremony began…

Yup – (below) there goes Caitlin Clark’s Jersey #22 (2020-24) rising up to the Carver-Hawkeye rafters…

…joining (below) #10 – Megan Gustafson (2016-19) and #30 – Michelle Edwards (1985-88)

…with Caitlin and her family proudly watching the event.

One of the most exciting pieces of news that surrounded Caitlin’s February 2, 2025 return to Iowa City was her announcement that she was writing four $22,000 checks to four Iowa City-area non-profits, one of which was the Coralville Community Food Pantry.

John Boller, Director of CCFP, in response to Caitlin’s generous gift, produced a ‘Thank You, Caitlin’ video. We thought you’d enjoy seeing it…

(Above) Here’s John Boller introducing the CCFP story that began when Caitlin first came to Iowa City. (Below) Here’s CCFP staff workers: Hai Nguyen Vo Huynh and Katarzyna Wolniak-Bujakowska adding their ‘thank you’s’…

The video concludes with a big ‘THANK YOU’ by a large group of CCFP supporters, including, of course, Sandy Boller and your humble author…
