On our free day, Sandy & I walked six blocks west of Times Square and boarded the one-hour Circle Line boat tour from Pier 83 down the Hudson River to the Statue of Liberty.

Along the way – there was a lot of history on both sides of the river. To the west – in New Jersey – stands Grand Central Station (above left) – the busiest railroad depot in America when trains connecting to ferries was the only way in and out of NYC. On the right – Ellis Island – where thousands of immigrants entered into America during the late 19th century.

On the New York side of the Hudson is Manhattan Island – where skyscrapers abound.

And finally…there she is – The Lady of Liberty – a gift to America from the French on our 100th anniversary in 1876.
