December 31, 1950 – Meredith Willson introduces his new composition – a salute to the University of Iowa – The Iowa Fight Song – to a national radio audience.

If you’re a Hawkeye fan – you know what happens when you hear a cymbal crash. What’s the word? Fight. Fight. Fight.

Meredith Willson premiered the song on his NBC radio show, The Big Show, on December 31, 1950 with a 47-piece orchestra and sixteen singers!
