November 28, 1931 – Roland Wehner is born in Hancock County, Illinois, and the Wehner family moved to Oakville, Iowa – a small Iowa town north of Burlington – after the family’s Illinois farmland flooded in the 1940’s.

Working alongside Iowa City’s first registered architect – Henry L. Fisk, Roland Wehner helped create three Iowa City icons that remain with us today. Over his forty-year career (1956-1996), Wehner and his partners drew up plans for homes, schools, city buildings, churches, apartment buildings and more. Today, two of those Iowa City creations are now included in the National Register of Historic Places.
