November 9, 1972 – The Hancher Auditorium features Meredith Willson’s The Music Man, The Hawkeye Marching Band, and Meredith Willson himself in its opening season.

When I was part of the Hawkeye Marching Band  (1969-1972), Meredith Willson made the trip to Iowa City to be a part of the gala opening of Hancher Auditorium. He guest conducted the band at the football game (November 11, 1972 vs. Michigan) and appeared with us on stage at the big “opening night” finale of The Music Man performance at Hancher.
