September 20, 1922 – KXIC’s Radio Host – Dorothy “Dottie” Klein Ray – is born in Eagle Grove of Wright County, Iowa.

In 1944-45, SUI journalism student Dorothy Klein (Dottie Ray) became the editor-in-chief of The Daily Iowan, overseeing the DI’s first all-female staff. Following in the footsteps of the DI’s first female editor – Mildred Whitcomb (1918-1919) – Dottie fought to make room in SUI’s Press Row for her sports editor. Ten years later, Dottie would begin a 60-year career as KXIC’s social editor, becoming one of Iowa City’s best-known radio personalities.
