September 16, 2024 – The University of Iowa announces that For The Kids Way – a road that runs east-west through University of Iowa Health Care’s university campus – will be renamed Hawkeye Wave Way.
When the Kinnick Stadium clock hits zero, at the end of the first quarter, 70,000+ football fans turn their attention from the football field to UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital – located across the street on Hawkins Drive. In unison, they wave to the pediatric patients and their families gathered on the 12th floor overlooking the field. The new street name reflects the relationship between the greatest tradition in college athletics and UI Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital, which sits north of Hawkeye Wave Way between John Pappajohn Pavilion and Pomerantz Family Pavilion.
