June 28, 1837 – Dr. Isaac Gallard publishes Iowa’s second newspaper – The Western Adventurer and Herald of the Upper Mississippi – in Montrose, Iowa.

This short-lived publication ceased operation in 1838, and records indicate that Galland sold the paper to James G. Edwards, who moved the location and changed the name to The Fort Madison Patriot.
