Meredith Willson’s Iowa Fight Song.

May 18, 1902 – Iowa’s own Music Man – Meredith Willson – composer of The Iowa Fight Song – is born in Mason City, Iowa.

An amazing musician, composer and arranger, Meredith distinguished himself as a writer of symphonic works and popular songs. But his most famous work of all? The Broadway Musical – The Music Man. But, many don’t realize that Meredith also penned The Iowa Fight Song in 1950! Do you know the lyrics?

The word is fight, fight, fight for Iowa,

Let ev’ry loyal Iowan sing,

The word is fight, fight, fight for Iowa,

Until the walls and rafters ring.

The word is fight, fight, fight for Iowa,

Come on and cheer until you hear the final gun,

The word is fight, fight, fight for Iowa.

Until the game is won.
