Come To Iowa City For The Grand Railroad Festival!

December 18, 1855 – The Grand Railroad Festival committee sends out hundreds of invitations, offering free round-trip tickets on the C&RI (Rock Island) and the M&M Railroads – departing Chicago on January 2nd, and arriving in Iowa City on Thursday, January 3, 1856.

in November 1855 – the Iowa City City Council began planning for a big celebration to be held when the M&M Railroad finally arrived in Iowa City. So, with celebration plans now in place, party invitations (see above) went out to hundreds of businessmen, bankers, investors, and politicians back East, inviting them to come to Iowa City for the January 3, 1856 Grand Railroad Festival.
