
December 16, 1913 – The Iowa City Republican reports that a “Noisy Edison” phonograph playing “some lively rag” causes a big ruckus at The Manhattan Hotel.
The Manhattan Hotel – located at 21 E. College Street – was built by the Dunkel family after The Hunt Hotel burned (circa 1910). An ad (shown above left) for the hotel calls The Manhattan “one of the up-to-date Hotels of the city” with steam-heat and a bath!
