
December 13, 1909 – The Bijou Dream Theatre advertises in the Iowa City Citizen, promoting a 2-day benefit for raising funds for the Iowa City Fire Department.
At the turn-of-the-century, Iowa Citians were anxious to see this new invention of Thomas Edison’s that allowed photographs to not only be projected onto a large screen, but they moved as well! By 1907, there were three “movie houses” in town, and only one decade later, Iowa Citians had experienced thirteen different theatres, in eleven different locations – all located within a few blocks of each other!
