December 11, 1974 – Irving Weber continues his “How’s Your History IQ?” series by giving a 60-year overview of Iowa City grocery stores (1839-1899).
Iowa City historian – Irving Weber – who wrote over 800 columns for The Iowa City Press-Citizen from 1973-1997 – published several articles on the subject of Iowa City grocery stores. On December 11, 1974, Weber wrote a piece which basically covered the first 60 years (1839-1899) – beginning with the story of J.J. Lefevre and his long-time grocery store located in the Odd Fellows Building (southwest corner of Dubuque & College Street.
