November 4, 1933 – The Very First Cy-Hawk Trophy.

November 4, 1933 – The Victory Bell has been recovered from Unity Hall and is now the trophy going to the winner of the Iowa/Iowa State football game.

In an article appearing in the Ames Daily Tribune-Times, we read that a small bell that once hung in the Mechanics Academy (SUI’s first academic building) has just resurfaced in time to become the new traveling trophy for the winner of the Iowa/Iowa State football game.

For the record, the Hawkeyes won that game in Iowa City on Saturday, November 4, 1933 – 27-7. Today, that same Victory Bell has been rescued and is safely stored at Old Capitol in Iowa City!
