Englert was still delivering ice by horse and wagon when I was a kid. In the summer, I sometimes followed the wagon in the hope of being offered a small piece of ice in order to cool off. We had an ice box that was converted to a mechanical refrigerator, and if it broke down, the day could be saved by putting in a block of ice.
