I regret never asking my father who commissioned the Pelzer murals at the Hotel Jefferson, the Iowa City Hotel Co or the hotel operator at the time. It would have been nice to have saved them all.

Still one amazing story! https://ouriowaheritage.com/the-iowa-city-murals/
Thanks for the reference, which answered the question I had about who commissioned the Jefferson Hotel murals; clearly the Hotel Co. By the time they were removed, my father was president, but I have no recollection of any discussion about what should be done with them. The renovation in 1949 included removal of a large opening to the second floor in the lobby ceiling. Possibly, there was some conflict with that project, especially if the lobby ceiling was lowered (don’t remember if it was).
