Here’s a rare treat – a postal cover from C.C. Yoder – a dry good dealer in Amish, Iowa – addressed to Marshall Field & Co. on April 23, 1881. Notice that this is letter is marked No. 21/19. We’re guessing that C.C. Yoder’s account with Marshall Field’s was #19 and this is his 21st payment on that account.
Amish, Iowa – or Joetown, as it’s called by some of the locals – has never been a large community. Officially, it’s an unincorporated town in Washington Township of Johnson County, Iowa, and records indicate that it had a population of 64 in 1902, 75 in 1925, and 117 in 2014.
