Speak Up to Protect this 1870s Iowa City Icon! – TUESDAY, APRIL 16th!
Did you know the building that houses Pagliai’s Pizza is called the Slezak Building, after the original owners? Read more about this historic building here.

All the necessary steps to protect this iconic building have been taken…
In February, the Iowa City Historic Preservation Commission said yes to designating The Slezak property as a city historic landmark.
In March, the Iowa City Planning & Zoning Commission said yes to designating The Slezak property as a city historic landmark.
On April 2, a standing-room-only crowd encouraged the Iowa City City Council to say yes to designating The Slezak property as a city historic landmark.
But, sadly, needing a super-majority (6 of 7 members) to approve the proposal, the Council decided to punt the ball, deferring their decision back to yet another meeting with the City Planning & Zoning Commission – planned for Tuesday, April 16.
So, here’s where we need you to help. SPEAK UP & SHOW UP…
There are two “city” meetings planned for Tuesday, April 16…
4 pm – Iowa City Council meets with Iowa City P&Z Committee for a “closed” discussion. The public can attend but not participate. We believe our presence there will still speak volumes.
6 pm – Iowa City Council – Formal Meeting – open to the public. This is where we need you to be present and a few of you to share your views!
