1837 – Welcome To Wisconsin Territory – Iowa District.

Did you know that from 1836 to 1838, Iowa was an intricate part of Wisconsin? Can you imagine any loyal Hawkeye rooting for the Badgers? Well, it’s true, and in 1837, Burlington, Iowa became the capital of Wisconsin! Take a tour of the Iowa District of Wisconsin Territory as it was laid out in the spring of 1837 using this rare U.S. Public Survey Map commissioned by the 25th U.S. Congress.
