September 1854 – Old Stone Capitol during the Second Annual Johnson County Fair. This is the earliest photograph of Old Capitol known to exist.
Isaac Augustus Wetherby (1819-1904) – Iowa City’s first photographer.
In the late 1850’s, Isaac Wetherby came from Boston came to Iowa City to set up shop on Clinton Street across the street from Old Capitol. He billed himself as a portrait painter and photographer and as a result, gave us our earliest known photographs of Iowa City.
