I remember horse-drawn ice delivery when I lived at 906 E College in the ‘30s, although the wagon was open, not enclosed per the photo. We had an ice box converted to mechanical refrigeration, and sometimes needed to buy ice when it broke down. By those days, the Englert Ice Company manufactured the ice using ammonia as the refrigerant.
