Author Marybeth Slonneger and activist Dianna Penny trace the history of the Penny family, from Henry Penny’s miraculous escape from slavery to his grandson Fred Penny’s 36-year ministerial position at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Iowa City from 1958-1994.
