March 17, 1975 – After nearly 50 years of serving Iowa Citians, A&P announces the closing of its last location at 903 Hollywood Blvd.
In 1959, after serving our city since the late 1920’s, A&P Grocery moved from downtown Iowa City, opening its new, state-of-the-art 21,000 sq. ft. facility at 700 South Clinton Street – just one block from the Rock Island Railroad Depot. In 1971, a second location was added at 903 Hollywood Blvd – next to K-Mart, but in the summer of 1974, the larger store on South Clinton closed, and by April 1, 1975, A&P Grocery was gone forever.
